How Municipal Court Warrants Work
City citations in Montague County land in municipal court, where judges handle ordinances and Class C matters inside each city's limits. Bowie, Nocona, and Saint Jo keep separate files. Skip a setting, ignore a ticket, or leave a fine unpaid, and a municipal warrant can follow. Other process allowed by law works too. The docket and the court's order fix which label applies. The Sheriff's curated Most Wanted page does not necessarily carry a city warrant, and a citation portal may not show active service status. The municipal clerk holds the current entry. Ask that office for the correct resolution route.
Municipal Courts Across Montague County
Each of Montague County's three incorporated cities runs a Municipal Court with its own contact. City Hall, police, and court addresses can differ. The Texas OCA directory lists the court rows and can confirm a current phone or judge when a city page conflicts.
| City court | Phone | Online route | Local note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bowie | 940-872-4392 | Citation portal | FTA page lists $50 per offense |
| Nocona | 940-825-3283 | Citation portal | No cash or personal checks |
| Saint Jo | 940-995-2337 | No official portal located | Call City Hall or court |
For a city citation in Montague County, the city court, not an all-county Sheriff page, is the first stop.
Montague County Municipal Warrant Checks
Bowie and Nocona both link online citation search pages. Those portals can locate citation or payment information, but neither one is a complete municipal warrant list. Saint Jo offers no official citation or warrant portal. In each Montague County city, ask the court clerk about a case number, FTA, warrant, balance, court date, and whether a hearing is required. Search by citation number first when you have one. The Sheriff page offers a separate public-safety route in Montague County. It does not replace a municipal clerk's docket answer. For a police report, use the city's records office. For an executed court warrant, ask the court about access under state law.
Bowie Publishes the Clearest FTA Route
Bowie has the clearest FTA route. Fail to appear or answer, and a warrant plus a $50 fee for each offense may follow. The case may land in a state criminal database. Bowie, in Montague County, directs people to settle the matter with Municipal Court before arrest. The docket schedule and same-day limits are published too. Online payment has sharp limits. It excludes defensive driving, deferred adjudication, cash bonds, juveniles, extensions, people in custody, and partial payments. The city also warns that paying online can waive a trial, so read the exact notice first; the Bowie FTA page applies to Bowie, not to Nocona or Saint Jo elsewhere in Montague County.
Municipal Warrants: What They Show
A municipal file can hold a citation number, the ordinance or offense, the city court, the party, a hearing date, an FTA, a fine, payments, bond, the warrant, and any later recall or disposition event. A portal may only return citation or payment fields. Montague County's city courts share no single public record display. Nor is there one county warrant-number format.
| City and court | Which municipal clerk owns the ticket or ordinance file. |
|---|---|
| Citation | Number and offense tied to the original notice. |
| FTA or process | Exact docket label and any order entered. |
| Balance | Fine, costs, warrant fee, and any online service fee. |
| Follow-up | Appearance, bond, payment, recall, or status update. |
In Montague County, let the clerk confirm the current docket instead of trusting the payment screen alone.
Nocona Portal Finds Tickets, Not Status
Nocona's citation portal groups searches by citation, driver-license, vehicle, name, and business information. It finds tickets, not status. The court sits at 102 Clay Street. Its phone is 940-825-3283. In person, the court takes money orders, cashier's checks, and credit or debit. Cash and personal checks are out. A youth-diversion plan notice appears too, adopted under Article 45.306(b), a local court detail rather than a promise for every defendant. Ask the clerk about FTA, warrant or capias status, payment effect, and any required appearance before you send funds; Nocona Municipal Court's official page carries its current contact and payment details for this Montague County court.
The Nocona court's contact page answers citation questions, but it posts no Montague County warrant roster to browse.
Chapter 45A Does Not Make One Portal
Texas Chapter 45A sets the rules municipal courts follow for complaints, arrest warrants, personal bond, capias pro fine, and service of papers. That is the catch. It gives every local court one legal framework, not one shared Montague County website. Each court keeps its own hours, clerk, payment limits, and citation records. So a Bowie result tells you nothing about a Nocona or Saint Jo docket. Depending on the case, the chapter's process can run through notice, a hearing, hardship review, payment, or bond. Ask the clerk which rule fits the event in your file. Review Texas Chapter 45A for the official text.
Use the statute with the city court's current docket and local instructions.
Clearing a Municipal Court Warrant
Ask the city clerk what the record actually shows: a warrant, an FTA, a capias pro fine, a judgment, or just a balance. Montague County courts differ on what they allow next. Some offer a new setting, full or partial payment, personal bond, cash or surety bond, or a motion, while a city payment page may exclude the very case type that needs a hearing.
Check first: Confirm whether payment enters a plea or waives trial, what amount is due, and how long recall or posting takes.
No Montague County office publishes a walk-in surrender instruction or a municipal bond window. Keep proof of whatever step you take, and ask the clerk when the docket and any law-enforcement record should update.
Saint Jo Warrants Need Direct Contact
Saint Jo runs no online citation-search portal. The OCA directory gives the Municipal Court phone as 940-995-2337, and the city's board page places City Hall at 220 E Howell Street. Call before you mail a payment or drive over, and ask who handles the citation or case you're asking about. A live person can tell you things no portal could anyway. Montague County residents miss that step far too often.
The city code covers custody only. Police may carry city prisoners to the county jail, and the Sheriff may hold them until the municipal court matter is settled. That is coordination between offices. It is not a warrant-search tool, and the lack of a portal means only that the online route is closed, not that no record exists.
Montague County City Police and Sheriff Serve Differently
Who serves a paper depends on which office issued it. Under Chapter 45A, municipal peace officers or marshals handle city-court process, while the Montague County Sheriff and constables carry their own county authority. Saint Jo's code adds a local custody rule on top. Bowie and Nocona each run separate police departments. None of this changes one basic point: the officer who serves a warrant is not the clerk for that docket.
For a Most Wanted tip, use the Sheriff's curated channel rather than repeating a name or photo yourself. For your own citation, call the issuing Municipal Court. A Montague County tip-program overview walks through the separate Sheriff route.
